Youth Ministries

Being a youth in today’s world is tough. Young people face many options and challenging choices. At OECC we work to provide a safe and supportive environment, where all students can come to feel welcomed, accepted and loved. The goal of our Youth Ministry is to create an atmosphere that gets to the heart of what it means to be a true follower of Christ. Through fellowship, service, Biblical instruction and small group interaction, we desire to be Christians known by what we DO as well as by what we say.

Christian Formation Classes:
Classes for Jr. High and Sr. High Youth meet Sunday mornings after our worship service. This more structured setting explores topics ranging from “How do I know God exists?” to “How was the Bible written?” and “How can I apply what scripture says to my life?”

Sunday Youth Gathering:
Sunday evenings, Jr. and Sr. High students meet at the church for two hours of fellowship and discussion. It is a time of honest conversation and expressed feelings in our search to discover what God has in store for our lives.

Outreach:
Outreach events are scheduled the third Saturday of the month, providing an opportunity to invite friends and just hang out. Bowling, a movie, games and lock–ins are some of the ways we gather to enjoy a good time.

Service:
Once a month a service project is taken on in our community. Projects include working at a soup kitchen, trash removal at a local park and serving those who are homeless through Johnson County’s Interfaith Hospitality Network.

Seasonal Trips:
Specialized trips are taken annually or every-other-year. They include our Colorado Ski Retreat, urban mission projects, a summer youth session at Covenant Cedars Camp, float (canoe) trips and occasional retreats.

C.H.I.C.
The Evangelical Covenant Church’s premier youth gathering brings thousands of students and sponsors together on a major U.S. college campus once every three years. OECC plans far in advance for this life-changing event in our students’ lives.
